How to Care for Your Wool Scarf: Keep Its Softness and Vibrant Colors

Comment entretenir son foulard en laine pour préserver sa douceur et ses couleurs

Wool is a living, noble, and sensual material. It breathes, adapts, and warms. It protects from the cold while letting air pass through, embraces the body without suffocating it, and keeps the memory of movement. This is the material we’ve chosen for our hand-drawn scarves, designed in Marseille, celebrating vibrant hues and the richness of color on a light and enveloping winter fabric.

A Precious Material That Deserves Gentle Care

A wool scarf, like a shawl or wrap, requires attention. Its fine natural fibers need care to preserve their texture, shine, and thermal properties. Wool behaves like an intelligent fiber: it regulates temperature, insulates from the cold, absorbs moisture, and resists odors — but it’s also sensitive to heat, hot water, and friction.

To maintain the splendor of your 100% wool scarf, adopt a simple and delicate routine — more a ritual than a chore.

How to Wash a Wool Scarf, Shawl, or Wrap

Wool loves gentleness, and your hands are its best ally. Always opt for handwashing in lukewarm water (below 30°C / 86°F). Add a small amount of wool detergent or mild soap, then let your scarf soak for a few minutes. Avoid rubbing or wringing — gently press the fabric between your fingers.

Rinse with clean water, then place it between two towels to absorb excess moisture. Finally, lay it flat to dry, away from sunlight or direct heat. This preserves the shape and flexibility of the fibers.

Ironing, Storing, and Caring

Once dry, you can iron your scarf at a low temperature with a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric. Light steam restores its natural drape. Never hang it wet — wool may stretch under its own weight. Instead, store it rolled or folded flat in a dry, airy space.

Between seasons, place it in a cotton pouch with lavender or cedar sachets to naturally protect it from moths.

Caring for Longevity

A wool scarf doesn’t need frequent washing — simply air it out after wearing. Its breathable fibers naturally resist odors and keep freshness. Avoid friction with bags or jewelry, and gently blot small stains with cold water.

Because a wool scarf is a living material — it evolves over time. It’s a piece to cherish, rediscover, and pass down — a promise of warmth and light.
